Golf Croquet Mixed Doubles Handicap Knock-out Competition

2010 WINNERS
The tournament final (Wendy & Ron -v- Heloise & Tony) was played in persistent (and ever increasing) drizzle on the afternoon of Tuesday 26th October. The match was nip and tuck over the first eight hoops, which the teams shared 4-4, and with both bisques already used an exciting finish seemed to be in prospect. The crowd (consisting entirely of a few overflying birds) were squawking enthusiastically, although the conditions (both atmospheric and underfoot) were hardly conducive to the highest standard of play. Heloise & Tony then managed to run hoops 9 and 10, leaving them requiring only one more hoop for victory. There then followed a titanic struggle for hoop 11, with both teams having chances and making good clearances, and eventually Tony managed to squeeze his ball through the hoop from close range, to secure the victory by 7 hoops to 4. As always, the match was played in a friendly but competitive spirit throughout, the only dampener (literally) being the unpleasant weather.

Association
Croquet Individual Handicap Knock-out Competition Semi-Finals:
On a beautiful sunny October afternoon John beat Wendy by 26-7 and in the other semi-final played a few days later the victor was Brian Havill whose fine play aided by plenty of bisques saw him beat Ken by 26-14. Whatever the outcome of the final Brian should certainly be congratulated regardless, having reaching his second final of the season.

Golf Croquet Knock-out Final 2010
David Minihane snatched a win in a closely fought Golf Croquet Knock-out Final when he beat a gallant Brian Havill 7-5 in front of a rather small group of keenly interested onlookers on Sunday 26th September. Many congratulations to both players for reaching a final that was a credit to the Club's ever improving newcomers and could quite easily have gone either way as a result of superb play by both contestants. David and Brian are both playing just their second season with Enfield Croquet Club and might still be regarded as rookies at some other Clubs. Despite the inclement weather the finalists were both applauded off the court as the days games were played out in series of light showers rather than seeing a gloriously sunny finale to this particular competition.

It's always the winner with the biggest grin isn't it?
I'm quite sure that the vast majority of participants will be delighted to hear that the intention is to carry the Ladder League over to the start of 2011 season. To that end the final September League tables are shown below.
Many thanks are owed to Terry, our competitions organiser, for seeing so many leagues through to completion.

Golf Croquet League
Our 2009 Golf Croquet league proved to be not only successful but an ideal way in which new recruits got the chance to become acquainted with the vast majority of club members during the course of the competition. In addition many participants found that the league became a major learning experience in relation to both the tactical and technical aspects of the game when playing against some of our more established members, especially those who represent the Club in competitions. All in all this league was great fun, a pleasant and sociable experience and for some an ideal learning curve which made it very much worth while. Final Standings as at 13th December:
