Letchworth 13 - 7 Enfield

Enfield: David Frost (-2), Henry Hobbs (3), Brian Dawes (3), Dave Hill (3)

The match was played on Letchworth's fast lawns on a day of mixed weather where a couple of heavy showers and strong sun changed the pace of the lawns throughout the day.

Letchworth looked the stronger side on paper and took an early lead winning all four of the opening doubles games even though two went to the golden hoop. In fact, 5 games during the match went to the golden hoop but Enfield only secured victory in one.

The 16 all-play-all singles games were hard fought, but Letchworth always looked the likely winners going into lunch at 9-3 up.

The victory for Letchworth was already secure before the last round of games, but Enfield fought hard, winning 3 of the 4 final games.

Letchworth's John Skingsley was player of the match winning all his games.

Enfield 6 - 14 Northampton

Northampton: Lionel Tibble (-3), Leslie Heard (-1), Jayne Stevens (0), Peter Stansfield (2)

This was Enfield's first experience of the new 20 game format and it proved to be a long and tiring day. The weather was glorious and the match was played in a friendly yet competitive spirit.

This was a first outing in "the big league" for Dave Hill and David Barnicoat. For which one fared far better than the other. In fact, David Barnicoat not only won two of his four singles matches but took the scalp of their top player Lionel Tibble.
